language, form, genres or style. Any type of entertainment that has a stamp of class and grace

Golden melodies of old songs by rare composers and lyricists will be brought to you by Satrangi. It
will have sontgs from movies like Pakeezah, Mahal, Kora Kaagaz, Howrah Bridge, Jhumroo,
Parvarish and Post Box No.999. The singers are, Pramod, Surojit, Shruti and Jaya. The

Naada Inbam pays homage to Vidwan A Sundaresan. Gayathri Venkataraghavan, Vasumathi
Desikan and Savitha Sriram will sing rare kritis of the Trinity.
There will also be a violin concert by Shankari Satish. On July 7, at 5.45 pm at Raga Sudha Hall.
In another presentation by Naada Inbam, E D Rangarajan will present a vocal concert,
accompanied by T Hemamalini and AS Ranganathan on the instruments. On July 8, at 6 pm.
At 7.30 pm, there will be a vocal concert by Pramakudi Ravindran. At Raga Sudha Hall.
To celebrate the 80th birthday of M L Vasanthakumari, there will be a number of music and dance
programmes. There will be a violin Concert by the trio – A Kanyakumari, Embar Kannan and V
Sanujeev. At Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore on Friday, July 3 at 5.45 pm.
There will be a thematic presentation titled Aadal Kaneero which is a dance performance featuring
the melodies of MLV, presented by Shobana Ramesh and her team. At Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
Sudha Raghunathan one of the biggest names in Carnatic music and a disciple of MLV, will present
an audio-visual presentation titled Maiden of Spring. Following this, she will also present a vocal

Sri Krishna Gana Sabha is organising Yagnaraman July Music Fest 2009 as a tribute to
Yagnaraman, the founder of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. Being presented is a Dance Festival of
choreographic works on Sankhya (Numbers), featuring “Shadrutu” in Vilasini Natyam by
Padma Bhushan Swapnasundari. The songs in this presentation are in six different languages and
South Indian and North Indian music styles are used. The presentation will have English narrative.
You can be sure to be uplifted by the music and the dance performance.

“Divyathriayam” in Bharathanatyam by dancing couple N Srikant and Aswathy Srikant is another

The couple, Raja and Radha Reddy are known for the scintillating kuchippudi dance performances.
They will present Dwaita – a twin concept of purusha and prakruti, at 5.30 pm on July 5.
Padma Subramaniam’s bharatanatyam dance presenting Adwaita will be on July 5 at 6.45 pm
This world renowned dancer will enthrall the audience with her Odissi recital Poornam. Her
performance will be at 8 pm.
This is a concert in Nageswara Rao Park at 6.30 am (morning) with out the aid of mikes. This
Sunday, on July 5 the Carnatic music performance will be by Raghavi Vishwanath, a class eight
student of Delhi Public School, Kuwait. She will be accompanied by Sriram Sridhar on the violin
and by Sumesh Narayanan on the mridangam.
This drama created a sensation in Kerala. Primus Events which is now celebrating its 10th year in
business is now bringing this drama to audiences Chennai. The centre of attraction of this drama is
a haunted house. The presentation and everything else about this drama – the sets, DTS sound
effects, lightning, thunderstorm – are larger than life. There is a scene where a large jumbo jet
lands on the stage. 200 artists perform in this show and tribal dance and music add to the fun.
The show is being staged at the Island Grounds at 4 pm and 7 pm. Tickets are priced at Rs.100,
150 and 250. The shows will go on till July 12, 2009.
Hot Shoe Entertainment is presenting Mamma Mia!, the smash hit musical based on the songs of
”ABBA”, with a lot of live singing, acting & dancing. It is directed by Mithran Devanesen and
Choreographed by Jeffery Vardon. The Music Direction is by Timothy Madhukar and Produced by

This play is presented by Madras Players in association with DIA. This play is on the Shakespeare
of Indian literature – Kalidasa. Naturally, there is a lot of literature and music. The vocals are by
Amritha Murali and Swarna Rethas, the dance choreography is by Sheejith Krishna and the
dancers are Anjana Anand and Sheejith Krishna. It has a star-studded cast including P C
Ramakrishnan and Anita Ratnam and V Balakrishnan of Theatre Nisha. This play, directed by
Gowri Ramnarayan will be presented at the Sivakami Pethachi Auditorium, Luz Church Road on

The JRO’s (JUNE ROCK OUT) 11th edition, presented by Unwind Centre will be held on July 3 & 4.
The performers represent different genre of Music, such as Jazz Rock, Funk Rock, Blues,
Alternative, metal and symphonic metal. 15 bands from different parts of India have been hand
picked to perform at JRO 2009.
The artists and promoters of this event do not encourage or entertain alcohol, cigarettes or drugs.
The idea is to entertain with clean, energetic music and the proceeds from the shows will go
towards worthwhile charities.
Tickets cost Rs.150 on July 3 and Rs.200 on July 4. The performances will be at Bucks Theatre,
Nandanam YMCA, from 4 p.m to 10 p.m. The cost of passes for both the days will be only Rs.300.
The passes are available at all outlets of Fruit Shop On Greams Road, Landmark and all 3 Unwind
Centres. JRO raises funds to finance a Widow Rehabilitation Centre in Mahabalipuram.
Dakshinachitra provides an array of entertainment like bullock cart ride, magic shows, puppet
shows, theatre arts, balloon sculpting, pottery and weaving demo for children from July 8.
